What is Sex Addiction?
Sex addiction is defined as any sexually-related compulsive behavior which interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and one’s work environment. Similar to other addictive behaviors, sex addicts are unable to stop self destructive and compulsive behavior on their own.
Sex addiction does not discriminate. Men, women and any gender can suffer from sexually compulsive behavior. Many of those that suffer were abused as children – sexually, physically, spiritually and/or emotionally. Many grew up in families in which addiction already flourished, including alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling addiction, and/or compulsive eating. Many grapple with other addictions in addition to sex addiction, but often find dealing with sexual addiction the most difficult to share with others.

Can Sex Be Addictive?
Yes, it can. It is important to understand that sex addiction can be just as compulsive and harmful as other addictions. While no drugs are physically ingested in the body, the brain continues to release chemicals during the fantasizing and acting out of sexual compulsivity.

I’ve Been Betrayed
Sexual betrayal is one of the most harmful and devastating events that a partner can experience. Partners are treated with respect and honor and are educated about the role that sex addiction can play in a relationship. You are not to blame for your partners acting out, even if the addict in your life has tried to gaslight and manipulate you into thinking this. This office works with partners on disclosures with or without the use of a polygraph in an intensive format.
